Some of this participant information does not apply during the closure of Mindrol Osel Ling during the pandemic.
AIR TRAVEL INFORMATION: If you will be arriving by air, O’Hare Airport is much more convenient than Midway. Except during rush hour, you can expect the drive from O’Hare to our location at 1818 Dempster in Evanston to take about ½ hour. Uber or Lyft are both available to pick you up at the airport.
HOUSING: We have a limited number of housing options we can provide that include a few beds in Tara House (across the street from the teaching venue), beds in homes of sangha members, and cots in our shrine room. To request housing, first complete your registration, then email email@example.com. We will send you a form to fill out and then do our best to find a spot for you. We will also try to help people who would like to share hotel rooms or an airbnb connect with one another. There are several good hotels in downtown Evanston and there is a well-rated, inexpensive Red Roof Inn 10 miles away (https://www.redroof.com/property/il/northbrookdeerfield/RRI188).
LOCATION OF THE TEACHINGS: The teachings will take place in our Maitri Building at 1818 Dempster in Evanston, IL. Please enter through the door at the east end of the building (the left-hand door). A code is needed to enter. If you will be arriving at a time other than shortly before the program starts, please be sure we are aware of your plans so we can greet you or give you entry instructions.
PARKING: We have a small parking lot to the east of our building. There is also plenty of street parking, although we do NOT recommend parking on Dempster because there have been several accidents in which parked cars are damaged, and it is important to double check the parking signs as they vary from street to street.
MEALS: Please be aware that meals are NOT provided during the program. There is a grocery store a half block away, several restaurants in walking distance, and many more just a 5 minute drive away.
WIFI: There is free guest wifi in the Maitri Building (server is “Guests of Heartwood.” No password).
CANCELLATION REFUNDS: Deposits and payments are refundable, minus a $25 cancellation fee, up to 10 days prior to the program start date. No refunds or credits are given for cancellations after that time and there is a $25 cancellation fee.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: We depend on the income generated by your tuition to pay the expenses involved in Rinpoche’s visit, as well as to help with our ongoing care of our shrine room and other operational expenses. At the same time, we do not want anyone to stay away simply because they truly can’t afford the tuition. If the amount listed is unworkable for you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will work something out.
TEACHER’S GIFTS: Teachers do not receive “payment” for their teachings at Ösel Ling. While their expenses are covered, it is traditional for students to express their gratitude for the teachings and appreciation for the teacher by through a monetary offering. Whether a gift is given and what the amount of the gift is entirely up to the giver. There will be a place to make your offering during the teachings, but you can also take care of this when you register.
INTERVIEW REQUESTS: While Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche is at Ösel Ling, it may be possible to request an interview. Please send a brief message, addressed to Rinpoche, stating the reasons you seek an interview to email@example.com soon after registering as possible. The message will be printed and given to Rinpoche upon her arrival. If an interview is granted, we will let you know during the program.
