Air Travel Information
If you will be arriving by air, O’Hare Airport is much more convenient than Midway. Except during rush hour, you can expect the drive from O’Hare to our location at 1818 Dempster in Evanston to take about ½ hour. Uber or Lyft are both available to pick you up at the airport.
We have a limited number of housing options we can provide that include a few beds in Tara House (across the street from the teaching venue), beds in homes of sangha members, and cots in our shrine room. To request housing, first complete your registration, then email email@example.com. We will send you a form to fill out and then do our best to find a spot for you. We will also try to help people who would like to share hotel rooms or an airbnb connect with one another. There are several good hotels in downtown Evanston and there is a well-rated, inexpensive Red Roof Inn 10 miles away (https://www.redroof.com/property/il/northbrookdeerfield/RRI188).
Location of the Teachings
The teachings will take place in our Maitri Building at 1818 Dempster in Evanston, IL. Please enter through the door at the east end of the building (the left-hand door). A code is needed to enter. If you will be arriving at a time other than shortly before the program starts, please be sure we are aware of your plans so we can greet you or give you entry instructions.

We have a small parking lot to the east of our building. There is also plenty of street parking, but please check parking signs as they vary from street to street.
Please be aware that meals are NOT provided during the program. There is a grocery store a half block away, several restaurants in walking distance and many more options just a five-minute drive away.
There is free guest Wi-Fi in the Maitri Building (server is “Guests of Heartwood.” No password required).
Deposits and payments are refundable, minus a $25 cancellation fee, up to 10 days prior to the program start date. No refunds or credits are given for cancellations after that time and there is a $25 cancellation fee.
We depend on the income generated by your tuition to pay the expenses involved in teachers’ visits, as well as to help with our ongoing care of our shrine room and other operational expenses. At the same time, we do not want anyone to stay away simply because they truly can’t afford the tuition. If the amount listed is unworkable for you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will work something out.
Teachers do not receive “payment” for their teachings at Ösel Ling. While their expenses are covered, it is traditional for students to express their gratitude for the teachings and appreciation for the teacher by through a monetary offering. Whether a gift is given and what the amount of the gift is entirely up to the giver.
There are three ways to make an offering:
- There will be a basket in which to place your offering during the teachings.
- When you register online there is an option to add a teaching gift, in advance, to your total charges.
- You may also make your gift online 24/7.
While we are not able to provide child care, young children are welcome to accompany you to teachings at Ösel Ling. Parents are responsible for and must supervise their children at all times. Young adults 18 and older, must register and pay tuition for programs they attend.
Shoes are never worn in the shrine room (unless you have a medical reason why it is necessary). We also request that you remove any footwear before entering the skylight event room. Such items may be left in the closets in the entry waiting room.
Please dress respectfully at all times, particularly in the presence of our teachers. Clothing should be clean and neat. Shorts or short skirts should be avoided.
Help Us Keep Our Spaces Tidy
Please bring in only what is needed for the teaching / practice session. Remember to take all your belongings with you when you leave for the day. Always do what you can to help the clean-up team by picking up any trash you notice and tidying the area where you were seated.

Use of cameras or cell phones for taking photos is NOT permitted during the teachings unless prior permission has been given. An official Osel Ling photographer may be present.
Personal Recordings of the Teachings
